Description:
Cichorium intybus, commonly known as Chicory, is a hardy perennial herb valued both for its bright blue flowers and its edible leaves and roots. Chicory leaves add a slightly bitter flavor to salads, while the roots can be roasted and used as a coffee substitute or additive.

This pack contains 100 seeds, ideal for growing chicory in your herb or vegetable garden.


Usage:
Leaves can be used fresh in salads or cooked like spinach. Roots are roasted for coffee or used in traditional medicine. Also used as forage and soil improver.


Sowing Time:

  • Sow seeds outdoors in spring or late summer.

  • Can be started indoors 4–6 weeks before transplanting.


Germination:

  • Germinates in 7–14 days at 15–20°C (59–68°F).

  • Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in well-prepared soil.


Soil Requirements:

  • Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with moderate moisture.

  • Soil pH 6.0–7.5 ideal.


Light Requirements:

  • Full sun to partial shade.


Watering:

  • Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy.

  • Avoid drought stress for best leaf production.


Planting Tips:

  • Thin seedlings to 20–30 cm (8–12 inches) apart.

  • Harvest leaves young for best flavor or allow to mature for roots.

  • Can be blanched by covering plants to reduce bitterness.


Height & Spread:

  • Grows 60–90 cm (24–36 inches) tall.
